Back in 1987 I moved to the Washington DC area and first became exposed to Don Geronimo. He was a "team" with Mike Omeara then and for many years I listened to Don And Mike. The two offset each other very well, they were a team.
After Don's wife died a few years ago, the show split up. Don wanted a change (understandable). I frankly think it was more than the tragedy he went through. It hadn't been the same show in quite a while before Don's wife died.
After the split Mike carried on with a solo show, shaky at first, but caught traction. It was a struggle, because Don took the fabric of the original show with him (all the sound effects/games) and left Mike with a blank slate. Mike has been writing on his new slate..
Interesting that Don "needed the separation" but took all of the games they played, and the sounds of the show; with him? He didn't want that big of a break.
In effect, he took the show that others had built(Robb/Buzz/producers), with him, lock stock and barrel, to new little markets.
I listened to a few segments of the latest Don Geronimo incarnation (KHTK, AM LOL) today, and didn't finish either. You can take all of the sound effects, games and trademarks of a "team show" and hug them to your chest, and run away. You might even have some success. But you will not have that chemistry; That which was cemented, the day you met Mike, and both shared a silly kid's rhyme.
Rubber balls and lick er'.
