What Does Earth Look Like From Mars?

Juno snapped this pic as it passed through the orbit of Mars.

Juno will catch a gravitational "slingshot" assist from Earth in October 2013, and arrive at Jupiter in 2016.

Juno Heads To Jupiter

This is a great mission, but it will take 5 years to even get there. One year wasted, to just meet up with Earth and get a slingslot boost out to Jupiter. If we had a heavier lift rocket, it would get there much faster.



Neat mission, it will be in a Polar orbit, which is a first. It will even collect valuable data on Earth when it flies by in a year (so look for that).

That black spot was created by a small "rogue" comet or asteroid. It was only 200 yards across (I expect a lot bigger, to make that big of a mark). Jupiter sucks in all kinds of objects that would obliterate us here on Earth. It is our celestial Sheppard.

Jupiter and our own Moon are responsible for the longevity of life on Earth, have been for ages. You should all say "Thank you Moon and Jupiter".

Yeah, it lost a ring. It's not a big deal, we have watched the rings of Jupiter change all the time. Like someone looking at the Earth might wonder what all that white is that appears in the North over winter, and the South in the summer.
