Africa And The Middle East Is Failing?

Ivory Coast has 2 Presidents, both claim control and the UN takes it's sweet time.

Tunis, Egypt and neighbors Yemen and Lebanon all in the pangs of Government turnover. Rumblings from Jordan too.

Sudan splitting into two countries.

The ongoing conflicts in Niger and Zimbabwe.

I actually think it's the opposite of a failure. It is people in these nations deciding they want something better. I have no clue what that is, but if the people work together, I bet they will figure it out.

Hmm, are we supporting the dissidents??  I guess it isn't a bad thing if we are.  We see how too much time in a political office breeds corruption.  You have see Congress, right??

Buying Health Care Across State Lines

Hmm, do people (Tea Party folks) realize this will dismiss the State's rights to set provider standards? State laws also cover medical malpractice, and they want to negate all those rights too?? It's a government takeover I say! Republicans want to TAKE AWAY state's rights... What's next, let the States have no power of regulation, abolish State's laws?? Awfully liberal of them to want to do that.

I Know I Am Going To Hell..

But this made me laugh.

Not because someone got hurt, but I visualized the guy pushing the wheel chair onto the ramp, then it starts getting away from him. He's running to keep up but loses footing, and ends up getting dragged behind it, because he doesn't let go. And the video is the end of the ride. It's a Laurel and Hardy stunt.

Democrats To Repeal The Affordable Health Care Act

Mike McIntyre
I can't figure out why he voted to repeal the health care law, he seems much more interested in steering Federal tax dollars to his district.  Yeah, scroll down those press releases, they just keep getting better.

Dan Boren
To quote Dan:  "I support common-sense health care reforms such as preventing insurance companies from denying individuals with pre-existing conditions, allowing children to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26, and making it illegal to drop someone because they are sick. "

Um, Dan.  You just voted to repeal all of those things.  If there were other things you want changed in the Law, you have the power to introduce legislation to do that.

Creepy Mike Ross
Mike actually has a good timeline of the changes resulting from the Affordable Health Care Act, but doesn't really point out what he specifically dislikes/likes.  He mentions "concerns" and "beliefs", but no details.  That might be nice to know.  Mike, maybe if you spelled all this out for your constituents, they would actually get it?  Or maybe you don't really support your President?

As one of the biggest D.I.N.O.s in all of Congress, I bid you leave.  Problem is, he has till November 2012 to really muck things up.  I somehow doubt he will fight the repeal of the Affordable Healthcare Act, and would vote to overturn a Presidential veto.

I guess after 24 years he has amassed enough money to walk away and take a job as consultant to any of the many Health Insurance companies based in Connecticut.  Or maybe General Dynamics?

Mama Is Homeless

Some old outtakes..

What's Wrong With Barbara Mikulski?

Big money is the problem, and it's not just Barbara, it's all of Congress. I do want to shed some light on which lobbyists she is in bed with...

The worst of the worst offence, is her taking over $12K from Accenture, $4K from Sodexo, $20K from DLA Piper and $9K from EDS PAC (who are now defunct). These are all companies that make money by shipping jobs out of the US, to cheaper labor markets. Funny that Sodexo calls this a "remote site".

In the International Association Of Global Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) annual report, Accenture and Sodexo are proudly named numbers 1 and 3 in the list of companies that outsource US jobs. They get rich doing so.   These guys pressure companies to outsource, to bolster their bottom line (for all those poor stock holders).  They use international trade law firms (Holland & Knight and Hogan Lovells law firms contributed $12.5K to Barbara) to push for free trade agreements, like the ones being considered with Central/South America now.

These agreements are crap to American workers, because the companies only want the cheap labor in these places, they know there is no market there to sell anything.  They are poor countries!

Using a company called SAP the outsourcers identify cheap labor sites outside the US.  Sodexo specializes in ensuring the basic needs of these poor communities are met, to keep them happy.  Keep them working...

Once the trigger is pulled, the plants close in the US, and the new ones pop up in Asia, EU, Canada and Central/South America.  We then take US tax dollars and obligate them to "retrain" the unemployed US workers for new jobs, that don't exist.  We also pay their unemployment.

I guess the bottom line to all this is greed.  Greed is killing the American middle-class, so the rich company owners and stock holders can get richer.  Once all this all implodes (which it will, it is now), and the "largest economy in the world" has no one left to buy all these things built by outsourced workers, the rich people in America will have a question to answer.

Was the greed worth it?  Was the last recession and it's ongoing effects, worth making a few billion dollars to a few people on Wall Street??

I Hope Sarah Palin And The Republicans Are Happy..

Yes, you John Bo[eh]ner, Eric Canter, Palin and all the right wing pundits. All of you. You have driven your worshipers to kill (at least 6 dead just today). To gun down totally innocent people. Keep spouting "Job Killing", when not a single person has lost a job due to the Affordable Health care Act.

Yeah, Sarah put that bullseye right on a Democrat's forehead. And on 6 others who were killed. A dozen or more wounded. It's so completely irresponsible to behave as you all have. You lie, and blame others, for your own failed policies. You incite hate and violence (Rush, Hannity). You (John) say you will be civil, but by calling your new "bill" a repeal of the "Job Killing" health care law, causes this kind of behavior.

To both Democrats and Republicans; Stop acting like spoiled angry children, and try to work together. You will totally cripple the country if you don't.

So what the hell does that mean?? Well, it lets the House keep all of the War expenditures off the numbers for the Deficit. Anne Francis, Dead At 80

So sad to hear that she passed, but she had a huge career. 80 years young. Besides the few Movies she did, she was a staple on TV from 1960 through the 1980s. I always thought she was so damn pretty, that it hurt...

Boblo Island Amusement Park

The Boblo Island Amusement Park opened in 1898 and operated till 1993 (95 years).  Click all the pics to enlarge them.

We would go there many summers, just one time a year.  There were 3 boats that could get you there, one a small ferry from the Canadian side of the Detroit River in Amherstburg.  We mostly took the longer boat rides from near Detroit, south to the Island.  These were the big boats, one is pictured above.  I loved the ride, the smell of the water, the noise of the engines.

They had plenty of "characters", but these guys hung around near the park entrance.  I don't recall seeing them, besides coming and going.

They had the first real roller coaster I had ever seen.  I didn't have the balls to ride it at first. Once I did, I was hooked on coasters..

The Log Flume (?) was no problem for me.  If us kids weren't on it, we were usually lurking around the path near the bottom of the big hill, just so we could get soaked.  Kids love getting wet when it's not appropriate.  I was fascinated at the mechanics of the ride.  I probably spent more time figuring out how it all worked, than actually paying attention to the ride.

I really liked the old fashioned car ride.  It was on a track, like slot cars, so the kids car "steer".  That's not my family pictured.  I couldn't find any pics of the sky trolly cars, but they were fun too.

Some old school pics below, besides the first one, way before my time..

I do remember the Safari Train, but I think it was eliminated in the early 1070s.

Today, the Park is almost gone, and they sold the island to a property developer.  There are mostly big assed houses all over, a few smaller ones.  Most of the islands in the Detroit River have been annexed by the social elite.  A great way to separate themselves from the common folk.  The few landmarks remaining from the park, sit and rust:

This was the welcome entryway, from where the boats tied up.  Where the creepy "characters" would greet people after getting off the boat. There was a great echo in here, from the screaming kids, itching to get off the boat and into the Park.

The spire, you can see it here and in the very first pic, on the right.  I doubt it goes up or down anymore.

The Pavillion still stands today. Beautiful stone work and hard wood floors.  It doubled as a roller rink and a hall for the occasional band.  The brown boards you see above didn't exist back then, it was open-air.

And finally, the Boats.  They actually get a second chance:
