I have to start by adding an omission from the A’s. Air is a really cool band from France (I think). While I was looking for audio from the band Air, I stumbled onto “The Air Band”. A cheap way to get hits on a web site if you ask me and the music is mostly noise, but you haven’t heard it. The Brownstone song is interesting and Peter Gunn Funn is probably the worst produced song I have ever heard, but it’s still yet another Peter Gunn cover (that rhymes). Honorable mention: I can’t find much media on a band I heard called Ali & Arzu. They do semi-traditional Turkish music that is so rich and colorful it would have a quadriplegic tapping their toes (a-hem). If you run across them, stop and listen. Bright Eyes is about the most depressing band I have ever heard and I don’t think they care one little bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaV-nGQ5yqw They are musicly qualified to be a band, but just need some “happy pills”. Plug “Easy/Lucky/Free” into google and watch the video. If you aren’t searching your house for a razor blade, you must have your own “Happy Pills”!
Built To Spill is a good humored band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, which I love. They have several tracks here http://www.myspace.com/builttospill and videos on YouTube, if you want to look them up.
Bob Nelson has a CD out called Atom Shop that I liked enough to buy. I can’t find any online media (shocker, everyone is so uptight these days about their "media") but he used to be in a British band called Be Bop Deluxe. If you want snippets, go to Amazon.com and plug in “Atom Shop”. It’s pretty good, like he wishes he was David Byrne.
