Music you haven’t heard…The P’s, Q’s and R’s…

The Pipettes are an all girl UK band with attitude. The most shocking thing about their debut album is that all of the songs are high energy, but really short. Some less than 2 minutes long. It leaves you wanting more, but unfulfilled. They seem to not want to fall into the “repeating verses” trap that wrecks many modern bands. I would just say, write more verses!
Judy has a 50’s/60’s sound http://youtube.com/watch?v=YONg8JiCyP4
Search for more if you like…there are many.

The Polyphonic Spree is another religious band. Tim DeLaughter (from Tripping Daisy) apparently found God. The music is symphonic. Their first CD was their best (The Beginning Stages Of), though I have not heard the new one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQAvflPexng They creep me out a bit.

Porcupine Tree is a good rock band, with a bit of electronic backing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J91CWkYT9yU Dig around and you can find some songs to sample. In Absentia is a real good CD.

The Postal Service is a tough band to research, because you keep hitting the mail sites. Their site here has downloads and video. http://www.postalservicemusic.net/ Listen to it all! They covered the Phil Collins song Against All Odds, from the movie… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kehHqPfRhPo
They are one of my favorite bands ever and I hear they have a new CD in the works.

The Presets is a young band with a lot of energy. Their web site is interesting http://www.thepresets.com/deterioration_content.html

No Q’s???

The Rasmus (don’t ask me what the name means) are another good rock band. They are touring this summer. http://www.therasmus.com/ click Media, then Videos. They have some solid drum beats and play all of their tunes tight. Just solid rock…
I think this was the tune that propelled them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alwBmF2HLvg

Reamonn (again, don’t ask me what the name means) are a lighter band, than average. I like the music and lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaW8FyL7xZs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysG1qmP_OqU I like this video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwBfriYr8uM When you aren’t lookin’ they go a bit country.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJyZ1hCXS0E a nice duet w/ Lucie Silvas.

Red Sparowes Well, they rock.

Republic; I don’t know anything about them/him, but I like this tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm0T7_SGee4

Rilo Kiley features Jenny Lewis from the Postal Service http://www.myspace.com/rilokiley Umm, needs a bit of pepper. I don’t hate it.

Royksopp will be in my top 10 bands, always. They have links to videos here http://www.royksopp.com/videos/index.html The media player links work better, listen to them all. Most of their singers are people from other bands on the label. Including Erlend Øye, who did the vocals on Remind Me. If you have seen the Geico Insurance Caveman Commercials, you will recognize this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBvaHZIrt0o If I have to suggest one CD you should ever buy, it would be Melody A.M.
